NotePad Publishing

We all know there are more music books, solos, and pieces covering every minute style, genre, and subject in music. It’s amazing however, that often we as educators still run into issues where we cannot find the right music to teach the concepts that are important. NotePad Publishing is here to try and fill that gap.

Our first book currently in the works will fill the gap for the beginner to intermediate snare drummer looking to perform contest solos. We have found that for this level the material is either too easy to the point it poses no challenge or so hard as to make it near impossible for the student to achieve. In the odd occurrence that the material is the right level for the student, we have found that the piece is not long enough to meet the standard of most contest offerings.

Our book looks to fill this gap by providing solos that are of the appropriate difficulty and that are at least two minutes in length. Please check out the lead off solo from our first offering, Freight.

From the performance notes:

Freight is a study in accents and how accents can be used to create a rhythmic melody. To emphasize this point, the solo is created using only sixteenth notes, save two quarter notes used as dramatic landing points. Dynamic change is limited, once again to show the importance of the accent.

This version of Freight is complete. We do not believe that shortening our work will give the performer the correct impression of our musical intentions. However this version has “SAMPLE” watermarked into the solo itself. Our intention is that if you decide that you wish to perform this as a contest solo you will need to purchase a copy. An official copy is $2.50 and can be purchased by clicking the paypal button below. When purchased we will email you a printable PDF version of the solo as well as mail you a print version.
